Trump claims he ended Epstein ties early, labels probe ‘witch hunt’

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has once again defended his handling of ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, claiming he severed connections with the financier long before it was “fashionable,” while accusing Democrats and major media outlets of conducting a political “witch hunt” against him.

Trump alleged that unnamed individuals who had social relationships with Epstein, who died in jail in 2019, only distanced themselves from him later and attempted to shift blame onto the president.

“Merry Christmas to all, including the many Sleazebags who loved Jeffrey Epstein, gave him bundles of money, went to his Island, attended his parties, and thought he was the greatest guy on earth, only to ‘drop him like a dog’ when things got too HOT,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, Thursday. He added, “Then, they went on to blame, of course, President Donald J. Trump, who was actually the only one who did drop Epstein, and long before it became fashionable to do so.”

The remarks coincide with the Justice Department’s ongoing, piecemeal release of Epstein-related files—a process critics say is slower than required under a law signed by Trump in November. While his name appears in some documents, along with Democrats including former President Bill Clinton, reports indicate no clear evidence of criminal activity has emerged, and many of the files remain heavily redacted.

Trump further suggested that future disclosures would primarily implicate Democrats, warning that there would be “a lot of explaining to do” in what he described as an “ongoing Radical Left Witch Hunt.” He also singled out Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, calling him “one lowlife ‘Republican’.”

The president reiterated his longstanding criticism of the media, accusing outlets—particularly The New York Times—of false reporting on past elections that led to apologies and lost subscriptions. Without citing specific recent examples, he claimed that similar behavior continues and warned that “mostly innocent” people would be “badly hurt and reputationally tarnished.”

Trump, who has repeatedly asserted that elections he lost were “stolen,” has not presented evidence to support these claims; courts have rejected more than 80 challenges following his 2020 defeat to Joe Biden, who served one presidential term.

He concluded his post with a pointed message to critics: “Enjoy what may be your last Merry Christmas!”
